K-9 Papercraft Model
In honor of Doctor Who airing in the US last night, I decided to post this K-9 Papercraft Model that Tektonten built and featured on his blog. He got the slightly improved pattern from Huxter, which you can find here.

I love our twitter followers. Ageekmom retweeted a link to this amazing website from her twitter-buddy, geekygirlau, and I was totally amazed by what I found. The picture above is a paper model of a Challenger STS-51L by Tomys from Prague, Czech Republic. You read that right, PAPER. This amazing website is full of incredibly detailed, incredibly realistic scale models made from paper. I can’t even begin to tell you how cool I think these AXM Paper Space Scale Models are.
Mandykaye of Michigan recently posted the Ouija Cheese Box she made as a gift for her sister-in-law. Mandykaye got her hands on some wooden cheese boxes from a local cheese shop for $3 each. She immediately had this project in mind when she saw them.
Her sister-in-law likes scrap-booking and taking photos, and you can never have enough good storage for your supplies, so she created this ouija board/box for her. She burned all the lettering. After stenciling and burning the letters, numbers, etc., she took a torch and burned around the edges of the top. She then applied some polyurethane clear coat finish. For the bottom part, Mandykaye blended some brown and bright blue acrylic paints to give sort of an antique patina to it, and then clear-coated that as well.
For the inside, she left it bare, with a bit of upholstery material to the bottom. With the humidity we get in Michigan, she didn’t want anything that could be sticky inside since her sister-in-law will most likely have photos and papers stored in there.
Pick your favorite Gene Wilder movie. For me, it has always been a tie between “Young Frankenstein” and “Blazing Saddles.”
In honor of a greatly talented man, I present to you a one of a kind painting from “Young Frankenstein,” by Nate Micheals Art of Louisville, KY. This hand painted piece is of watercolors and ink on 140lb coldpress paper, and measures 11″ x 17.” It’s also signed by the artist.
And, by the way, one of my favorite “Blazing Saddles” quotes:
Jim: Look at my hand. [raises hand and holds it level]
Bart: Steady as a rock.
Jim: [raises his other hand, which is violently trembling] Yeah, but I shoot with this one.
Who doesn’t need an Origami Sorting Hat? Lucky for us all that Adelle Belnap from the blog Packed With Fun has created this adorable (and FREE!) printable Origami Sorting Hat game. Her post includes a link to download your own Sorting Hat along with plenty of pictures and instructions. Looks to me like this would be a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends (or the kids, or by yourself). Enjoy!
Back to school time doesn’t have to suck. Make your own (or someone else’s) wardrobe super cool with these fantastic T-shirt ideas from Natalie over at Doodlecraft. She uses freezer paper to make stencils and paint designs onto t-shirts. You can download some of the designs she features on her blog, but it wouldn’t take much to come up with your own. Once you have your design, you can make a stencil out of freezer paper (either with a cutting machine or with a little elbow grease and an exacto knife). The cool thing about freezer paper is that you can iron it onto fabric and it sticks into place, making it the perfect stencil. Once your design is painted on and dry, you simply peel off the freezer paper and your custom t-shirt is ready to go. The blog post takes you step-by-step through the process, complete with awesome pictures.
What designs would you want to make for your own back-to-school wardrobe?
