Steampunk Cthulhu

Who doesn’t love an adorable Cthulhu? SpookyPooky created this tiny (3 inch tall) Cthulhu stuffy for the One Tiny Stuffie swap over at Craftster. Her lucky partner’s survey said she liked “cryptids, sea creatures/monsters, anything a little unusual, steampunk, Neil Gaiman inspired…She also said she loves anything with a top hat and a mustache.” So Steampunk Cthulhu was born! I love that she added a mustache! You can see more pictures in the post, including his filigree-touched wings and the mini I, Cthulhu biography “written” by Neil Gaiman SpookyPooky made to go with it.

3D Dalek Embroidery

New episodes of Doctor Who start Saturday! Of course that’s what I’ve been thinking about all weekend, so I give you a 3D Dalek! Britter25 made this for her Dr. Whoopla swap partner (along with an embroidery of Ten…in 3D glasses of course!) over at Craftster. She based the Dalek off of this card. Britter25 said she may start doing everything in 3D, and I can’t blame her–this looks so cool! I wish I had the old red and blue glasses so I knew if it really works (hint hint)

Tutorial Tuesday: Cucco (and more!!)

Here’s a reader submission/tutorial double header!

Gina from Kiwistitch.com is a cross stitch wizard… and to be fair I really shouldn’t be featuring her Cucco, I should be featuring her Ode to Spot cross stitch, and pattern. Her Chrono Trigger Sprites Cross stitch, and pattern. Or her insanely EPIC Bahamut Vs Alexander cross stitch and pattern, which weighs in at an impressive 30,000 stitches.

But no. I’m featuring the Cucco cross stitch and pattern… because it’s cute.

Hit us up on the submit a geekcraft link if you’ve got a tutorial or a craft you would like to see here!

Slime Mold Quilt

You know you’re a geek when you say something like: “I’d love it if some one made me a microbe quilt”. That’s exactly what waggonswest‘s Mini Art Quilt Swap 4 partner said, and this is the result! It’s not very often you get to say how pretty mold is. The quilt is based on a picture from the Scientific American webpage. Waggonswest painted, fused, embroidered, and beaded this quilt, making it an epic work of art.

Tutorial Tuesday! Star Wars Travel Embroidery Case.

Here’s one from me!!  (Geeky Sweetheart)

I had the utter JOY of participating in the Star Wars OTT (One Tiny Thing) swap on Craftster. This is what I sent out… It’s a circular embroidery case, which is large enough to accommodate a 6″ embroidery hoop, as well as supplies in its integrated needle-book and inner pocket, have a look!

Of course, I ended up making one for myself as well, I LOVE it! I took it to a hospital appointment where I had to hang around in the waiting room for 2 hours, I was sat there stitching away happily, could have stayed there ALL day (but glad I didn’t have to!)

The image on the front of the case there is by DeviantArt user Jasonpal, you should completely check out his gallery, there are all sorts of geeky goodies in there. Inkjet Iron on transfer paper is a brilliant thing! … The speech bubbles were my idea though!

Probably worth mentioning quickly about what I recieved on the swap from my fantastic partner SilentBlair. It was only the cutest little Wampa amigurumi for my little geek-to-be (2 months and counting til (s)he makes his/her grand entrance into the world!) Here he is next to my 1929 Singer hand-crank sewing machine and my baby Yoda hat I got from The Green Hedgehog on Etsy.

ANYHOW – I promised you a tutorial, and here it is. Go forth and make circular travel embroidery cases, emblazon them with your best geeky quotes and images, and dont forget to let us know about anything you make using the ‘submit a geekcraft’ link.

OOh and while I’m on the topic of tutorials, I’ve finally got my act together and organised a tutorials section on my blog. Now you have direct links to all the tutorials I’ve ever published, including my “Wretched Hive of Scum and Villiany” embroidery pattern and my Supergirl Costume.

“The Pandorica Opens” Embroidery

Just when you think the Doctor Who crafts can’t get any more awesome… they do! PurpleHeather made this epic hoop for her Doctor Whoopla Swap partner, and I’m SO jealous! They way she mixed the thread colors mimic Van Gogh exactly. I don’t think I need to say much: just look at how gorgeous it is! PurpleHeather said: “The background is dark blue velvet, because as Vincent says, the sky isn’t dark and black and without character, it’s deep blue!” The most impressive part? She did it all freehand! What a work of art!
