Tutorial Tuesday! Monster “Ninni” plush and pattern

On February 25, 2009 blog and shop, RevoluzZza published a tutorial for a simple monster plush.  (S)he is called Ninni, isn’t (s)he adorable? ok, yea, but here’s what really makes it a Geekcraft.

Ninni is open source! Since the tutorial was published in 2009 over a hundred people have contributed their own interpretations of Ninni in the RevoluzZza Flikr Pool. I love it when the internet helps spread creativity like that!

Here’s another cool thing that’s happening in the evolution of Ninni. Craftster users Susanab and Leslieshappyheart are currently organising a Ninni swap! In this swap, Craftsters are being challenged to reinterpret the Ninni pattern to suit their partner. Another way that the internet is using the Ninni pattern to breed creativity on an international level.

Creativity is awesome. Ninni is awesome. The internet is awesome.

Tutorial Tuesday! Reverse Stencilled Tote Bag

Here’s a neat idea! lets think ‘outside the stencil’.

That’s exactly what jennieingram did when she had to quickly step into the Dr Who Swap on Craftster. Round 5 of the Dr Who swap that is… these swaps are hugely popular, they’re going to go on forever! Round 6 is crafting away as I type!

Jennie has shared a tutorial on how to achieve this effective technique on her blog, and also on Craftster.

But wait, there’s more! Turns out Jennie is quite an avid Geek-Crafter and tutorial writer. Check out her Doctor’s Companion Charm Bracelet and her tutorial on how to make Laminated Paper Bookmarks including a sonic screwdriver and a golden snitch.

Reader Submission! Wookie Wear – Chewbacca baby Mitts and Booties!

SO, last week we had international Star Wars Day, which was celebrated on a host of different blogs across the galaxy.

Cheryl from Sew Can Do got in on the action too and brought her geek-crafting skills to the party. Check out these ADORABLE Chewbacca baby Mitts and Booties!! She knew that we’d be interested in seeing her work, so she hit us up on our Submit a Geek Craft page.

On another note: Small world, a friend of mine bought me a baby Yoda Hat from Cheryl’s Etsy Shop, The Green Hedgehog, in preparation for my growing tummy monster. I’m also really lucky to have recently received an awesome amigurumi Wampa from Craftster user SilentBlair in the “One Tiny Thing, Star Wars Swap”. Star Wars Babies FTW!!

Plushie Oy from Stephen King’s The Dark Tower

Plushie Oy from Stephen King's The Dark TowerOkay, so I’ve never read any Stephen King books and have seen only a few movies. I don’t usually do scary and his work definitely qualifies as scary in my book (pun intended). But I just might have to read The Dark Tower because of this plushie Oy that Craftster user YumJello01 made for a Dark Tower swap. I love this so much! Is Oy good or evil? Do you think this will be too scary for me?

Doctor Who Bingo

Craftster always has the coolest swaps going, and the stuff that comes out of them is amazing. ivoryh1632 made these Bingo Cards for her partner during the Doctor Who round 6 swap, and they’re so cool! There are 12 different cards to choose from, and they have squares like “The Doctor mentions he’s a genius” and “Someone gets slapped”. ivoryh1632 says “I did it up all proper and used a bingo card making website so every card has a random assortment chosen from 80 different phrases, so choose your card wisely.” You could always use jelly babies as space markers. Or if you print them out big enough,  jammy-dodgers.
