I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the colorful and ornate look of sugar skulls. So when I saw this fun tutorial and pattern by Rachel on the blog Adventures in Making, I knew I needed to share it. The tutorial has a downloadable template and step-by-step instructions, complete with plenty of pictures, so you can make your own lovely sugar skull sachet. There are even instructions on making your own sachet mix to go inside the felt sugar skull. Wouldn’t this make a fun gift?

Make These Beautiful Gallifreyan Window Blinds!

After finding this awesome tutorial, I knew I had to share it with you all. Kristy GD from the blog Please Excuse My Craftermath posted this lovely step-by-step tutorial, complete with downloadable printouts for the stencils, to make these awesome Gallifreyan window blinds. Even if you’re not a Doctor Who fan, you’ve got to admit this design is really lovely!

Crochet Patterns: Puffing Along with Harry Potter

In honor of Harry Potter’s recent birthday (July 31st), I bring you a set of adorable Harry Potter puff crochet patterns from Lee Mac of Totallee.net.

A self-proclaimed pop culture addict, Lee has developed step-by-step tutorials for how to create charted/colorwork squares featuring Puff versions of some of her favorite Harry Potter characters: Harry, Ron, and Snape.

As an aside, these patterns are based on the Powerpuff Girls version of Harry Potter characters, but I was unable to track down the original artist for that concept/art. Anyone have a link?

Lee also has a pretty amazing Hogwarts Bunch charted afghan you’ll definitely want to check out.

Have you ever attempted chart/colorwork in either crochet or knit? I’m working on a TARDIS crochet afghan and it’s really challenging!

If you love Harry Potter, you’ll love this free embroidery pattern and tutorial from Beverly at Flamingo Toes! You can solemnly (or otherwise) be up to no good and make your own 8″ hoop art piece. Beverly gives step-by-step instructions and photos, and she even talks you through distressing the final piece so it looks aged, just like that Marauder’s Map!

I’ve seen quite a few tutorials on decoupaging shoes, but this one is really good. I found it on Anomaly Geek Girl Podcasts and Blog (a site well worth investigating!). It’ll take you step-by-step through the process, complete with pictures. And the results are pretty awesome. Just imagine, you could have comic book shoes for every fandom!
