I’ll Be in My Bunk with Jayne

Jayne Cobb chibi plush by Vicious Pretty

In honor of Adam Baldwin’s birthday on Friday (February 27th), I wanted to share something beyond the iconic hat he wore as Jayne Cobb in “Firefly.” We’ve shared a number of different variations of the Jayne Cobb hat over the years, such as a Doctor Who version, a scarf version, a cupcake version, and a lip balm cozy version.

Today I bring you the plushie version – as in, sitting atop a cute Jayne Cobb chibi plush, as created by Cristina, aka ViciousPretty.

Cristina shared her creation over on DeviantArt, where she also has an extensive gallery of other adorable plushie creations, such as Gandalf, Namor, and a number of Mass Effect characters.

Cristina’s Jayne plushie is so cute and cunning, I just want to take him right to my bunk and cuddle. What character have you created in plush form, or have plans to attempt?

Also, be sure to wish Adam a happy birthday on Friday via Twitter!

Sherlock Craft: A Study in Pink Earrings

Sherlock Study in Pink Earrings by Angelas Crafty Distractions

Many of the Sherlock fandom crafts I see pay homage to his iconic damask wallpaper, or his signature coat and scarf. I like this project because it steps outside that, with a hat tip to the first episode, “A Study in Pink.”

Angela put together these cute earrings using “growing” sponge capsules and candy sprinkles! Because who doesn’t need more sprinkles in their life??

I also like that she made them based on a challenge issued by her daughter – crafty mom superpowers to the rescue!

Gift a Geek: Keeping Warm – Mittens

LLP Mitts

There is still time to craft a gift or two for the holidays. I will have to say scarf making season has passed, but one could knock out a pair of mitts, before Christmas.  So here are quite a few options for the geeks in your life.

Or maybe you don’t have time to knit, over at Nerdifacts on Etsy you still have time to order some crochet geeky Mitts.

Or maybe you know a fellow geeky crafter who always pays their debts and would love to knit their own pair of mitts.

The kit from the Yarn comes with the yarn and pattern to make your very own pair of mitts. And there is also the e-book available of the ten house designs if you want to go that route instead.

Countdown to Christmas, Doctor Who Style

Tom Baker scarf earrings by Natalie Shaw of doodlecraft

Step into many retail outlets these days, and you’re likely to met with visions of gingerbread-spiced this, and holiday-bedecked that. The countdown to Christmas is on! But leave it to a geek blogger to put a Doctor Who spin on that! Natalie at Doodlecraft is hip deep in a crafty countdown – “Like the ’12 Days of Christmas’…but for Doctor Who!” – posting a different Doctor Who craft every day!

She is drawing inspiration from across the full history of the beloved series, starting with blue crystal signet jewelry inspired by the first Doctor, William Hartnett, through Tom Baker’s iconic scarf (see above), and a patchwork bean bag warmer ode to Collin Baker (the 6th Doctor). But that’s not all – be sure to check out her Doctor Who tag for the full lineup of crafts, PLUS her round-up of 73 Doctor Who crafts from this summer! Doctor Who craft bonanza!!

Another item of note: I stumbled upon Natalie’s countdown via the Celestial Craftmakers Facebook group. If you’re into Doctor Who crafts, you may want to check it out!

Magic the Gathering Craft: Crochet Blocks and Dice Bag

Magic The Gathering Mountain Mana Crochet Potholder by Ann Pierson D'Angelo

My daughter is big into playing Magic: The Gathering, so I was pleased to find a series of posts by Ann at WonderStrange where she translated the mana symbols into crochet charts. On her blog, she posted charts for Mountain/Red, Swamp/Black, Island/Blue, Plains/White, and Forest/Green.

What’s cool is that since she provided the charts, you can adapt the project to whatever suits you – you could make individual potholders, placemats, or coasters, or link blocks together to make a scarf. Ann also provided a tutorial for stitching two together to make a cool Magic: the Gathering dice bag.

What’s another way you could adapt the charts?

Game of Thrones Crafts: House Sigil Stamps

Game of Thrones House Sigil Stamps by This is Just to Say Co

With the premiere of Season 4 of HBO’s Game of Thrones a mere week away, are you itching to do a Game of Thrones craft? Get ready to wrap your Hand of the King around these hand-carved Game of Thrones House Sigil Stamps.

Tyr at This Is Just to Say has stamps for House Stark, House Lannister and House Targaryen. I think they’d be perfect for creating invites for a watch party, or maybe even stamping on some fabric to make a one-of-a-kind scarf or skirt.

Which House would you support, and what would you make with the stamps?
