CMYK Starship Enterprise

CMYK Starship EnterpriseWhen sci-fi geekery meets ink cartridges and a little creativity, it turns into some really amazing art!  Artist Faith Pearson made scenes from sci-fi movies and tv shows using a ton of empty ink cartridges donated by Ink and Media Ltd.

My favorite is of course the Enterprise, but there are also amazingly photographed scenes from Godzilla and King Kong, and a pretty convincing space tunnel!  Check out the full gallery of images at Ink and Media Ltd.

Trek in the Park RETURNS!

I posted awhile back about getting to see Atomic Arts’ fantastic Trek in the Park play here in Portland, and I’m so excited that the next installment, Space Seed, is coming right up!

From the Facebook page:

Trek in the Park RETURNS! This summer, we present an episode with one of the most classic and enduring villains to ever cross paths with Kirk and crew in the final frontier, KHAN.

A perfectly preserved, genetically enhanced warrior from the 20th century, Khan, is revived by the crew of the USS Enterprise upon discovering his adrift ship. They deduce Khan was the kind of 20th century leader who could have conquered the Earth in his time. However, not everyone is suspicious of Khan’s intentions, one such person is Lt. Marla McGivers, the ship’s historian. She is so moved by Khan’s glorious ambition, she assists him in hijacking the Enterprise to finish the conquest Khan Noonian Singh started 200 years ago. Will this be the last generation for the crew of the USS Enterprise?

Portland actors accompanied with live music and effects bring this classic piece of television to life!

Shows are at 5:00pm Saturdays and Sundays July 10-August 1 (4 weekends!) . 8 shows total! Be sure to get there early for a good viewing spot!

FREE TO THE PUBLIC. ALL AGES WELCOME

Spend a day in the park, bring a picnic and BOLDLY GO!!

It’s Never Too Early For Christmas Crafts

XUNCJkQ

This might be the simplest Christmas ornament ever and I love it! SparkOut had this posting on Imgur. An even though this is representative of the Red Shirts of Star Trek: The Original Series, it lends itself to some creativity. With a change of sequin colors for the round ornaments, you could make almost any uniform from any Star Trek series: blue for the Sciences and Medical from TOS, command yellow from TOS, burgundy and black for command on TNG, or even teal for Counselor Troi, to just name a few ideas.

To Boldly Live Where No One Has Lived Before . . . . errr sort of . . .

StarTrekHouse

Live in the Bay Area of Texas? Have an extra $1,265,000 laying around? Then I’ve got the house for you! It features this insanely cool (or perhaps just insane) entertainment suite styled after Star Trek. Not only does it feature a projection screen, but it also has its own dormitory (with futuristic bunks), bathroom, kitchen, and dining area.  And that’s only a small(ish) piece of this 6,389 square foot house. It also hosts a music themed loft-style bedroom along with a medieval style bedroom.  The house is perfect for Klingons,   rock stars, and princesses alike.

I ran across this Star Trek themed home reading Our Nerd Home’s latest post, but you can find the Houston Chronicle’s listing here, along with all the pictures–and it’s definitely worth a look.  This house . . . there are no words. What do you think? Are you ready to move in?

Captain Janeway Plushie

captain janeway

Supermutts of New York recently posted this plushie of Capt. Kathryn Janeway from “Star Trek: Voyager.” She was made for the “Flaptain” (Fleet Captain) of Supermutt’s husbands Star Trek Fan group. Janeway is her hero so that’s why Supermutts made her a mini Janeway.

She used a pattern for Spock and Kirk by a lovely etsy seller and then made her own adjustments.

Kathryn Janeway, played by Kate Mulgrew, is a fictional character in the Star Trek franchise. As the captain of the Starfleet starship USS Voyager, she was the lead character on the television series “Star Trek: Voyager,” and later a Starfleet admiral, as seen in the 2002 feature film “Star Trek: Nemesis.” Although other female captains had appeared in previous Star Trek episodes and other media, she is the only one to serve as the central character of a Star Trek TV

Boldly Going Where No Socks Have Gone Before

Picard socks by Linda Jo Park

Linda Jo Park, of BeadKnitter Patterns, has created some out-of-this-world socks in honor of Captain Picard from Star Trek. You can find her pattern here.

She also suggests that the pattern could be easily adapted to reference other characters:

There’s no reason why a person couldn’t do them in Captain Kirk gold, Spock blue (you get two choices there), or even Deanna Trois lavender. Or perhaps you’d rather have Gorn green.

What color combo would you choose? Let us know in the comments below!
