Dr. Who Costumes

Kelly Szpunar at HunkyDory comes up with the best stuff. When this originally landed in my inbox I was thrilled, then disappointed as Halloween was over and geek crafts had been pretty well costumed…but after some discussion, it was decided that these amazing Doctor Who Costumes were too cool to hang onto until next year. The Doctor is so well done! And the take on the Dalek is too cool, I love that it is an “outfit” made to look Dalek-y and not a full Dalek suit made of carboard and spray painted tennis balls! And the super Doctor Who geek in me is thrilled that someone went as a TARDIS, since the TARDIS is supposed to be a living entity, after all.

Doctor Who Experience at Coventry Travel Museum

What trip to England would be complete without a large amount of Doctor Who trivia, sight seeing and, of course, the new Doctor Who Experience at the Travel Museum in Coventry. As soon as my sister-in-law mentioned it, months before our trip, it became a cemented part of our plans. I mean, yes, it is nice to sit in a pub that was once frequented by C.S. Lewis and Lewis Carrol, great to take in the medieval architecture, and wonderful to get real, authentic fish’n’chips. But I’m a geek, and geeks like what geeks like, and this geek likes (loves, actually) Doctor Who.

Torchwood Babiez

torchwood-babiez

I was happily googling along, attempting to find Doctor Who themed clothes and/or toys for our impending baby (I like that, it sounds dramatic), when I ran across this awesome Torchwood fan comic Torchwood Babiez. Spastamagoria and Jigglycat have apparently worked very hard to represent our favorite Torchwood characters as cute little kids that you just kind of want to hug. And have no fear, the pet pterodactyl from the hub is even represented, as a cute little stuffed animal that Gwenn carried around, Tosh has her own mini Apple computer, and when we run into The Doctor, Rose is carrying a Dalek toy. I giggled through several pages, and it is safe to say I am now hooked on this particular livejournal blog.

Scrabble Wedding Cake

scrabble-wedding-cake
Weddings are supposed to be all about the bride and groom, right? Well, if the bride and groom are total word-nerds then this awesome Scrabble Wedding Cake from Pink Cake Box is the most awesome cake around. Mrs. Hummingbird posted this, with a load of other Scrabulous wedding ideas at Weddingbee, and I’ll be honest, I am a bit inspired.

I love the freedom that comes with the modern wedding, a friend of mine had a little Dalek bride and groom hanging out on one of the tiers of his wedding cake, and other geek-themed weddings are popping up all over in pictures on the web.

The great thing is, even if wedding bells aren’t ringing in your near future, you can use the ideas at Weddingbee‘s Scrabble page to throw the best Scrabble themed party anyone has ever seen!
