DIY Star Wars Canvas Wall Art

Star Wars canvas by Kimbo West

Got a Star Wars fan on your gift list? Check out these cool DIY Star Wars wall art canvases by Kimbo at A Girl and a Glue Gun!

Her tutorial walks you through her process, from painting the background of the canvas, to where she found her spaceship clipart, to creating a galaxy and explosions. Cool effects!

This would be easy enough to adapt to any space-based fandom (any Trekkies or Browncoats on your list?).

To Boldly Live Where No One Has Lived Before . . . . errr sort of . . .

StarTrekHouse

Live in the Bay Area of Texas? Have an extra $1,265,000 laying around? Then I’ve got the house for you! It features this insanely cool (or perhaps just insane) entertainment suite styled after Star Trek. Not only does it feature a projection screen, but it also has its own dormitory (with futuristic bunks), bathroom, kitchen, and dining area.  And that’s only a small(ish) piece of this 6,389 square foot house. It also hosts a music themed loft-style bedroom along with a medieval style bedroom.  The house is perfect for Klingons,   rock stars, and princesses alike.

I ran across this Star Trek themed home reading Our Nerd Home’s latest post, but you can find the Houston Chronicle’s listing here, along with all the pictures–and it’s definitely worth a look.  This house . . . there are no words. What do you think? Are you ready to move in?

Marvel-ous Kids Furniture Renovation

Marvel dresser by Melissa Nieves

I’ve mentioned before the fantastic geek fabrics that are becoming more readily available, both online or in local fabric stores. Every day I see new fun prints that make my fingers itch to get geek-crafty.

I recently spotted this fun dresser and lamp re-do by Melissa Nieves, and it has me salivating over the fabric, AND eyeing the furniture in my house for possible makeovers. I’m sure the superhero in her life was super-pleased with her results, too!

I actually got a couple yards of the bottom two prints and plan to make matching skirt-scarf sets out of them – just searching for the right pattern. What fun new geek fabrics have you spied recently, and what do you plan to make? Let us know in the comments below!

Launch into Hyperspace with This Star Wars Shelf

Star Wars fighter shelf hyperspace wall by Her Tool Belt

In honor of Star Wars Day tomorrow (May the Fourth…be with you!), I wanted to share this cool child’s bedroom decorating idea. Who am I kidding? This would be cool for any Star Wars fan, from padawan up to Jedi!

Amy from Her Tool Belt has put together an awesome tutorial on how to build a Star Wars shelf, complete with supply list, step-by-step instructions, and detailed photos. As you can tell from the photo above, the results are simply…stellar.

I love the extra details she also added around the top border of the room, taking advantage of Star Wars dingbat fonts to use as stencils.

Home Decor: Maleficent Dragon Trophy

Paper Mache Maleficent dragon trophy by Dan (the Monster Man) Reeder

In honor of the “Maleficent” movie premiere this past weekend, I wanted to share an amazing project by Dan “the Monster Man” Reeder: Maleficent Dragon Trophy. It was a custom commission project which he sold for $2000.

Dan used paper mache to recreate the head of the Maleficent dragon head, and mounted it like a wall trophy – clever idea and goregous reproduction! Impressive attention to detail with glass eyes and LED lights to make it extra ominous.

Have you seen the new Maleficent movie yet?
