Who doesn’t need an Origami Sorting Hat? Lucky for us all that Adelle Belnap from the blog Packed With Fun has created this adorable (and FREE!) printable Origami Sorting Hat game. Her post includes a link to download your own Sorting Hat along with plenty of pictures and instructions. Looks to me like this would be a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends (or the kids, or by yourself). Enjoy!
I really like the idea of this DIY Minecraft torch. It looks super easy to make, not too expensive, and it would look great to have them dotted around the place for a Minecraft themed party, or even just as part of your everyday décor! Talk about sisterly love! For her sister’s wedding recently, Amber Lackey of Sissy La-La created unique bouquets using comic book pages.
She cut each comic book page down to two 4×4″ squares and folded them into petals, using five squares to make each flower. The bride’s bouquet featured more than 300 petals and measured about 12-1/2″ across. It took about 150 pages and 14 hours to make. She went on to make two more bouquets.

It might look like computer graphics, but no. This is made from paper–well, 99% of it. The artist, Bernard Szukiel, says it took him 4 years to build this 38″ long model using photos he found on the internet, fiber optic lights, and LEDs. The countdown to Christmas is down to single digits now – are you ready? I still have some wrapping to do, so of course I turned to the Internets for some ideas. And they did not disappoint. Here are several options for adding some geek flair to your gift wrapping.
First up is a series of Doctor Who-inspired printable holiday cards (like the one pictured above) by Natalie Shaw at Doodlecraft. (You may remember her Doctor Who Holiday Countdown I recently linked to.) Well, she has even more Doctor Who craft ideas up her sleeve! She created A2 card size (1/4 of a sheet) images featuring Daleks, Judoon, Weeping Angels, the Silence, and Cybermen. Hey, even villains celebrate holidays!
Next up, Ellie Petrov designed some Minecraft gift tags and graciously shared them. She offers a PDF of Minecraft Santa tags, and one of Minecraft snowmen.
Liz over at Being Geek Chic also has some Doctor Who-inspired printable wrapping options – both gift tags and wrapping paper.

We’re in the final countdown to Christmas, my fellow geeks! My gifts are wrapped, my decorations are up, and (most of) the messy aftermath of wrapping and decorating has been stowed away. I know everyone is super busy this time of year, but I’m sure you can spare a few minutes to make these two adorable papercraft Krampuses! (Kramps? Krampi?) If you haven’t yet been introduced to Krampus, the Christmas Devil, boy oh boy, are you missing out.
This lil’ green guy was created by Christopher Bonnette. I made him a couple years ago when I first found out about the Krampus. He even comes with an accessory: a terrified child for his basket! The other, much hairier, Krampus was created by Uncle Ghastly. I just made him a couple nights ago! So far both Krampuses are getting along famously! And I’m making sure to be on my best behaviour, of course. I don’t want to end up in their baskets!
