Reader Submission: Mythical Beast Sculptures

Sarah H sent in a link to the fantastic work of Ellen From Creatures of El.

In the words of Ellen herself:

“Each sculpture is handmade and painted with no more tools than fingers and a paint brush. By virtue of this primal process, each creation is completely unique and produced in a fluid and intuitive manner… With inspiration derived from animal physiology and a love of the fantastic, grotesque and absurd, each sculpture is unique and personable.”

absolutely outstanding work

DeLorean Time Machine Plush Sculpture

DeLorean Time Machine PlushGreat Scott! Check out this DeLorean time machine plushie, built by the talented Lynne Dhenson.

What a great homage to the classic Back to the Future films. I love how Lynne took something so hard-angled and mechanical and made it into a soft, squeezable felt sculpture.

Seriously, do yourself a favor and click through to her LJ post to see the amazing amount of detail that went into this piece. She says that the engine alone took 16 separate pieces!

Though the DeLorean and its pattern do not seem to be for sale, Lynne does have a few other cool patterns available on her Etsy shop, including one for the Metallicar from Supernatural.

Minecraft Pixel Art Sculptures

Why limit your crafting to ‘real’ life when there’s a whole virtual world out there to bend to your will! (cue maniacal laugh MUAHHAHAHA!)

The residents of the minecraft server Ambar (owned by Angry Dinosaur) have created these glorious pixel art sculptures depicting some of their favourite Nintendo characters. Also, check out that rainbow bridge, reminds me of Mario Kart.

Check out Angry Dinosaur’s minecraft gallery
to see some of the other amazing sculptures that the residents have made in this virtual environment…. I don’t play Minecraft… but I hear it’s what all the geeks are doing nowadays!

‘Inception’ Paper Sculpture

inception_paper_cuttingCheck out this paper sculpture of THE coolest fight scene ever!

ld posted this over at Craftster, with bigger pictures on LiveJournal. Inspired by the hallway scene of Inception, it’s made out of a single piece of card stock, with no adhesives. I absolutely love this, because it’s 1) an amazing piece of art and 2) because this is my favorite scene in the whole movie. When I saw the thumbnail on Craftster, I immediately knew what it was.  ld has even more amazing Inception paper sculptures at LiveJournal, and they are just as cool.

9 Soft Sculpture

One of our favorite submitters (is that a word?), Dawn A. Crawford sent in this creeptastic 9 Soft Sculpture from her blog, Crap I Make. Whether you enjoyed the post-apocalyptic, burlap doll story, you have to admit this little guy is pretty well made and very creepy. The details are great, too, with a working zipper and hand-sewn “9”.

Friday The 13th Metal Sculpture

friday-the-thirteenth=metal-sculpture

Halloween is inching nearer and that can only mean one thing: I will be happily posting all the horror related stuff I can find! I found this Friday The 13th Metal Sculpture by inaBAG while playing with the “pounce” feature on etsy and I have to say, jut the picture was so super cool, I couldn’t just pass it by. If this rendition of Jason isn’t enough on his own, his mask and axe are removable, opening you and your friends up to all sorts of minature axe attack fun.
