Guardians of the Galaxy Craft Ideas

PaperCraftGroot

Guardians of the Galaxy is coming out on DVD this week, and I thought now’s the perfect time to get inspired by this fantastic movie.  So, I’ve rounded up some craft ideas to help you get in the mood for talking trees, gun-wielding raccoons, and spontaneous dance-offs.

Dorothy Tan, from Design Taxi, has a really cool Groot paper craft pattern, designed by a freelancer in the Phillippines, Richenna King.

Not enough Groot goodness? How about these super cute Baby Groot Cupcakes? This DIY is actually pretty easy! It was put together by JK Denim, and I found it on Makezine.com.

I used to make stuff with Perler Beads (beads you fuse together with heat), and I found this pattern for a Rocket Raccoon:

The same designer has a Perler Bead pattern for Star Lord and Groot too!

And for you knitters out there, I found this delightfully fun Tape Cassette iPod Cozy.

Printables for a Doctor Who Party

Doctor Who printable cupcake toppers

Planning a Who-a-Thon for New Year’s Eve? I’ve got just what you need to invite friends and decorate! Kristi Duggins, aka Bohemian Bear on Etsy, has a whole slew of Doctor Who-related printables to help you get ready in a flash – no sonic screwdriver required!

Use her Printable Invitation to entice friends to attend, her DIY Bunting set to adorn your TARDIS (you have one in the corner, right?), and her Starry Night Circles to top a set of blue cupcakes.

Then when the evening is done, you can scrapbook your memories (any that the Silence didn’t steal, that is!) with her Starry Night Scrapbook set. For additional scrapbooking fodder, you can also check out the RetroDiva “Call the Doctor” digital scrapbook set I featured previously.

Which Doctor Who episode would you choose to have playing at the strike of midnight?

The Perfect Dessert For Any Halloween Party

You know what it’s like…you get an invitation to a Halloween party and are asked, “Can you bring a dessert?” But what to bring? Your best option might be to bring a tried and true recipe: Chilled Monkey Brains, from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but in cake form.

Love that little underbite!

Bubbleandsweet posted a tutorial over at Instructables on how to put together this great Indian delicacy.

A Little Bit of Summertime Cosplay

I love the amount of work and care that goes into a good cosplayer’s costume, even more so when it’s genderbending the original character. There’s a lot of stuff to be taken into consideration when you’re turning Tonto, for example, into a female.

“Baker Jenny Rae of Lil Rae Cupcakes is a huge Johnny Depp fan who has an impressive collection of handmade aprons that she wears at her shop. When she saw Depp as Tonto in the upcoming The Lone Ranger film, she decided to make an apron in his honor, but went a step further and even made a headpiece and donned his makeup.” BTW, Jenny Rae mentioned on her FB page, linked above, that she’s going to see “The Lone Ranger” on the Disney lot in Burbank. Pretty cool!

I Don’t Care That It’s Your Birthday

129980_05Apr13_IMG_0586Pottermouth, a Craftster user since 2008, posted this entry about her son’s recent birthday in the Cooking section.

“My son gave me free rein on decorating his birthday cake this year so I thought it was appropriate that I made Grumpy Cat. The cake is from a box (!) that I altered with The Cake Doctor white cake recipe and I’ve added the frosting recipes below.”

For those of you not in the know about Grumpy Cat, it’s a nickname given to an angry-looking snowshoe cat that rose to fame online after its pictures were posted to Reddit in late September 2012. The cat is also known as “Tard” which is short for Tardar (Tartar) Sauce. Her owner, Tabatha Bundesen, says that her permanently grumpy face is due to feline dwarfism. he Bundesens say that Grumpy Cat’s face is due to feline dwarfism and an under bite. She and her brother Pokey were born to normal parents with “a flat face, bubble eyes, and a short tail.” Grumpy Cat is undersized and has hind legs that “are a bit different.”

Embroidered Tribute to Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard Embroidered Quote

It’s an amazing embroidered tribute to the awesome Eddie Izzard by Pam! Look at the beautiful satin stitching! I came across this while browsing through the pool in the Geek Crafts Flickr Group and immediately started to giggle. Yes, I actually lol’d. But who doesn’t lol at Eddie Izzard’s stand-up? The man is hilarious! And he can rock a pair of stilettos. Oh, you haven’t heard of him? Click here to be enlightened! (Slightly NSFW because of slightly spicy language.)

Fun fact! Not only is Eddie Izzard one of the funniest comedians out there, he’s also a great serious actor. He played the bad guy in one of my favourite shows, the Day of the Triffids mini-series that aired in 2009! He also starred as Grandpa Munster in last year’s Munsters remake, 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
