I’m not really sure why a second X Files movie is being made. Wasn’t the first X Files movie kind of… bad compared to the TV show? Is that blasphemy? Anyway, something fun comes from anticipation of the new movie: Craftster user sydneysunray’s keychain plushies. Sydney sewed a little Mulder and a little Sculley out of felt.
Just this weekend my younger brother tagged me on FB with an article about the children’s book series Bunnicula, including the news that a new cartoon is coming out. Since the Bunnicula series was one of my favorite books as a kid, I wondered if there were any crafters out there that had shared their love of the vegetable sucking vampire bunny. I found this cute little plushie by username road_baby on Craftgrrl – Where Crafters Unite! Adorable.
There’s no tutorial that goes along with this photo, but on Urban Threads I did find a bunny plushie pattern that could be adapted (or made as is, it’s delightfully cute and evil) to more resemble Bunnicula.

They’re super simple, and they’d make great stocking stuffers. Just check out the tutorial by Amanda Formaro over on her blog Crafts by Amanda for step-by-step instructions. She’s even got a separate tutorial on making a comic book decoupage picture frame if you’re looking for something a little more special.
Mollie over at Wild Olive has a tutorial on making your very own little, cuddly, Mini Ewok Softie. This little Wicket would make the best stocking stuffer!

This week on Spoonflower, the contest involves original designs for mythical creature plushies, and when I saw Gila’s UniPug design I knew I had to share it on Geek Crafts. You can purchase your own DIY UniPug Plushy Pattern on a variety of fabrics (I recommend Spoonflower’s new Minky fabric for this one because it’s super soft and cuddly, like the ever elusive UniPug himself) in Cross The Lime’s Spoonflower shop. The design fits on a fat quarter and costs about $17 with shipping.
If you’re more of a cat person, you might enjoy making your very own Grumpy Cat with this Instructable by username elewis03, complete with step-by-step instructions and pictures, as well as a rudimentary pattern you can download for free. I’m really into making felt plushies at the moment. I’ve been surprised at how easy they are… well, compared with what I expected. This week I decided to take the plunge and try a Purple Tentacle from LucasArts’ Day of the Tentacle, and boy – am I pleased with how he turned out!
And since I’m nice, I whipped up a pattern so that other people can recreate the little guy – check out the link below. Printed on A4 this will give you a tentacle that stands about 18 cm (7 inches) tall, but there’s nothing to stop you scaling this dude up!
Just don’t leave your 6-foot version unattended otherwise he might just try to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
Today, we have another project by SpeakGeekAndEnter, a regular poster over at Crafter. SGAE was last featured here in March 2013 for the Daryl Dixon plush from “The Walking Dead.” Today’s entry is Amy Pond, “The Girl Who Waited.”
‘I’ve been working to try and add in more details to my plushies — since most of my plushies are one of a kind dolls, I figure I might as well make them the very best, with as many details, as I can. I used silver metallic thread for her ‘zipper’ which I loveeeee. And bonus, I even got to use some of those “fancy” stitches on my machine that I never thought I’d use.”
