Tutorial: Lucky Origami Nintendo Stars

Recently I had to have a late-night conference call for work. It went for two hours and ended at midnight. However, thanks to the wonders of hands-free kits I was able to do some geeky crafting at the same time, so it didn’t feel like much of my evening had been swallowed up by work stuff after all!

Tiny Origami Nintendo Stars

Itty bitty paper Nintendo Stars are really easy and quick to make, and the more you make of them the better they look. If you don’t know how to make these tiny origami stars, keep reading for a quick tutorial.

CMYK Starship Enterprise

CMYK Starship EnterpriseWhen sci-fi geekery meets ink cartridges and a little creativity, it turns into some really amazing art!  Artist Faith Pearson made scenes from sci-fi movies and tv shows using a ton of empty ink cartridges donated by Ink and Media Ltd.

My favorite is of course the Enterprise, but there are also amazingly photographed scenes from Godzilla and King Kong, and a pretty convincing space tunnel!  Check out the full gallery of images at Ink and Media Ltd.

Calvin and Hobbes Nursery Mural

gLvNDPc

Oh, this makes my heart happy! I need this simple, sweet little mural in my bedroom!

Dikaneisdi recently posted this Calvin and Hobbes mural, of the boys asleep on a tree branch, to Imgur. Dikaneisdi used a projector to put the image on the wall as a reference but actually sketched it on the wall, freehand. The paint Dikaneisdi used was just jars of wall paint samples. Mom-to-be painted this while she was seven months pregnant. It took her a few hours each day, over the course of three days.

There are a series of pictures of the mural in progress, but really, no other text or information about the lucky recipient of this mural. However, Dikaneidi said this was the second choice for the mural, with glow in the dark stars.

To Boldly Live Where No One Has Lived Before . . . . errr sort of . . .

StarTrekHouse

Live in the Bay Area of Texas? Have an extra $1,265,000 laying around? Then I’ve got the house for you! It features this insanely cool (or perhaps just insane) entertainment suite styled after Star Trek. Not only does it feature a projection screen, but it also has its own dormitory (with futuristic bunks), bathroom, kitchen, and dining area.  And that’s only a small(ish) piece of this 6,389 square foot house. It also hosts a music themed loft-style bedroom along with a medieval style bedroom.  The house is perfect for Klingons,   rock stars, and princesses alike.

I ran across this Star Trek themed home reading Our Nerd Home’s latest post, but you can find the Houston Chronicle’s listing here, along with all the pictures–and it’s definitely worth a look.  This house . . . there are no words. What do you think? Are you ready to move in?

Captain Janeway Plushie

captain janeway

Supermutts of New York recently posted this plushie of Capt. Kathryn Janeway from “Star Trek: Voyager.” She was made for the “Flaptain” (Fleet Captain) of Supermutt’s husbands Star Trek Fan group. Janeway is her hero so that’s why Supermutts made her a mini Janeway.

She used a pattern for Spock and Kirk by a lovely etsy seller and then made her own adjustments.

Kathryn Janeway, played by Kate Mulgrew, is a fictional character in the Star Trek franchise. As the captain of the Starfleet starship USS Voyager, she was the lead character on the television series “Star Trek: Voyager,” and later a Starfleet admiral, as seen in the 2002 feature film “Star Trek: Nemesis.” Although other female captains had appeared in previous Star Trek episodes and other media, she is the only one to serve as the central character of a Star Trek TV

A Papercraft Millenium Falcon That Will Blow Your Mind

MilleniumFalconPapercraft

It might look like computer graphics, but no.  This is made from paper–well, 99% of it.  The artist, Bernard Szukiel, says it took him 4 years to build this 38″ long model using photos he found on the internet, fiber optic lights, and LEDs.  For more AMAZING photos of this incredible model, you’ve got to check out his gallery!
