The IT Crowd Cross-stitched Quote

IT Crowd Cross-stitched QuoteCross-stitched by Flickr user Cerys Davies aka chickenstitch, this quote from The IT Crowd is funny on it’s own, but even funnier for those of us geeks who have to help our friends and family with their computer problems. This would go nicely with “No, I will not fix your computer.”

Tweet-A-Pot

I don’t know why I don’t spend more time trolling Instructables for things that make my inner geek jump for joy. Instructables user, Frenzy, has designed and programmed this flipping amazing, worship worthy, friend to any technologically adept coffee addict, Tweet-A-Pot. Using an every day drip coffee maker, an alternate Twitter account, and computer know how, he has made it possible to tweet your coffee pot and tell it to brew, no matter where you are, and Frenzy is so kind as to give you a full, detailed lesson on how to do it for yourself. I find this almost as amusing, and much more useful than the other Twitter-related Instructable I found, on how to Give Your Cat Twitter Powers.

Plushie Mega Drive Console

oh man! THAT is a geek craft right there!

Donna Evans shared this supremely geeky creation on the Sprite Stitch boards, a 100% plushie mega drive console (oh and a genesis controller for all you Americans out there!) with removable Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cartridge.

My favourite bits? the cord… the way it’s all cordy,  the ingenious use of velcro to secure the game cartridge, and strangely the use of iron on transfers… I don’t usually like iron on transfers, they feel like a cop out, but for this they completely work! they give a complete finished look to the piece.

I just want to squish it SO BAD!!

Also Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was my favourite game on the Mega Drive… because my older brother could play as Sonic on 1 player mode and I could just pick up the second controller and play as Tails, but in 1 player mode Tails couldn’t die. I loved this. And for a child with an urge to play computer games, but an intense fear of ‘dying’ in them it was the best of both worlds.

EDIT: this plushie console is for SALE! see Tavington’s DeviantArt for details

Motherboard Christmas Tree

This past weekend we had a get together with my geeky friends, where I saw the most adorable Christmas Tree made from a circuit board. The lights on it blinked in time to music in colors of red and green and white.  My geeky friend said he made it years ago, and despite my pleading he has no intentions of making more.  Lucky for me, there is the internet!  PurpleJacaranda has the cutest Christmas Tree circuit board crafts on their Etsy page.  I can’t decide if I like the pin more or the ornament, but either way they are awesome!

If blinking lights is what you are looking for though, check out Think Geek.  They not only have a Motherboard Christmas Tree, but also a Motherboard Menorah!  You may have to go this year without Motherboard holiday decor, but next year you will be ready!
