Kick-Ass Peg People

Kick-Ass Peg PeopleI’m a little behind on my movie watching. I finally rented Kick-Ass this past weekend, fully expecting a comedy-action popcorn flick. Imagine my surprise to find out Kick-Ass is (arguably) one of the darkest and most brutal superhero films since Watchmen.

Needless to say, I’ve fallen in love, and a trip to the comic book store is definitely in my near future. Meanwhile, I had to check out the related offerings on Etsy, and came across these little hand-painted Kick-Ass peg people by Mia, aka Giddy Girlie.

I love how they resemble those Fisher-Price Little People I used to play with as a kid. Except they’re…well, more kick-ass!

Ron Weasley Doll

Ron Weasley Doll

We are currently all Harry Potter all the time in our house. In the past couple of months, we’ve watched all five movies so we’d be ready for #6, and my little guy and I have been reading the first book, a chapter a night. Now he’s watching Potter Puppet Pals on YouTube, probably completely inappropriate, but very funny. Funny and awesome craftiness. But he just asked me the question I always love and dread at the same time – can I make him a Harry Potter puppet? Love because he thinks I can make anything and dread because half the time it’s beyond my crafting abilities. Any other crafty moms have that problem?

Anyway, all this to say that I took a spin through Etsy to see if anyone else is making Harry Potter puppets right now and found these very sweet dolls, including Ron Weasley,  by GirlCalledRic. I love the little Gryffindor necktie! More Potter characters, Star Trek and some super heroes in her Etsy shop.

The Shadow Hare

I find it my geekly duty to inform any Geek Crafts readers that haven’t already heard, about The Shadow Hare. The Shadow Hare is a real-life Watchman in Cincinnati, OH. Not much is known of the Shadow Hare, other than that the Cincinnati PD is a little confused as to how to deal with this masked avenger who is patrolling their streets. After reading the initial article on TMZ, I did a little research and found a couple other news stories featuring The Shadow Hare and, of course, his myspace page.

If you’re not in Cincinnati, don’t fret. A little more research, and I discovered that there is an allegience of masked avengers (The Allegiance of Super Heroes)  patrolling the streets. There is a Mr. Extreme in San Diego, CA and Wall Creeper in Colorado, along with many others who stay organized through the web.

Now, they may have taken The Watchmen a little too seriously, or maybe they are really awesome dudes trying to fight crime…but it’s unusual, and very geeky. And since they make their own costumes, very crafty. I love it. Absolutely love it.
