Futurama Bender and Leela Cosplay

One of the highlights from a Halloween party I attended this past year was a life-size, true to Futurama canon, EtOH fueled Bender being in attendance. Over six feet tall, Bender was skillfully crafted from household items. Futurama Bender Leela Cosplay Costume

Regretfully, there are not any pictures of the interior of the EtOH cabinet that was custom crafted for this Bender unit.

I can, however, attest that all one needed to do was open the chest compartment, insert an appropriate adult beverage, connect it to the intake hose, and then Bender was able to party on with hands-free operation. Of course, Leela was around to keep an eye on Bender! ‘An eye’ ha…ha…ha…

And, the Winner is…

Remembering Sarah Jane Smith

K9 searches the heavens for his Mistress Sarah Jane SmithEven greater than the excitement over the imminent start of Series Six of Doctor Who this Saturday, is the collective sadness spreading across the Whoverse: Elisabeth Sladen, who brilliantly portrayed the much loved Doctor’s companion Sarah Jane Smith, passed away on the 19th of April, far too young at only 63 years.

The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it’s a world, or a relationship…everything has its time.  And everything ends.

— Sarah Jane Smith, “School Reunion”, Doctor Who

No, I never land on Sundays. Sundays are boring.

No, I never land on Sundays. Sundays are boring. This may not be your typical ‘craft’ given the mass-production, but until Midnight (you hear that, Cinderella? TODAY until MIDNIGHT only! E.S.T.) you can order a most fantastic t-shirt from Tee Fury featuring the only thing out there scarier than Daleks and Cybermen combined: the Vashta Nerada. Ever jump at your own shadow? Chastise yourself for being silly over it? Well, don’t. If you haven’t seen this Doctor Who episode, you owe it to yourself. Just be prepared to never look at the darkness the same way. Ever. Again.

The design, appropriately titled “Count the Shadows” by Artist/Designer Jordan M Dalton is quoted in his Tee Fury interview saying:

I wanted to make a design for all the hardcore Doctor Who fans and make it something really specific, but also really cool looking for everyone else.

He was also kind enough to share the Doctor’s own words regarding these little terrors:

“Almost every species in the universe has an irrational fear of the dark. But they’re wrong, ’cause it’s not irrational. It’s Vashta Nerada. It’s what’s in the dark. It’s what’s always in the dark.”

Mr. Dalton, I do believe you overwhelmingly achieved the coveted balance between “geek” and “fraking awesome” with this design. Being a ‘hardcore’ whovian myself, I didn’t even need to read the banners to recognise the reference. That terrifying image is well emblazoned upon my memory, and your rendering of it is spot-on. Well done!

The t-shirt can be found only on 12 December 2010 in Eastern Time (that’s New York, NY USA time, folks) until 11:59 PM at:

“One for the money, two for the show, three to make ready, and four to GEROOOOONIMOOOOOOOO!!”

Every single time (and thankfully, Moffat & Co. didn’t use it as much as I had first feared) I hear Eleven say, “Geronimo!”, I remember that tidbit from Daffy Duck…oh, and: Hello, I’m Krys. Someday soon I will get a proper bio posted to the site. In the meanwhile you just need to know that I’m a geeky gal who will be posting here at Geek Crafts as I find things that make my inner fangirl go ‘squeeee!’
