These two have taken “playing Mario” to a whole new level! (Pun intended.) And thanks to this ingenious creation I finally “get” parkour. I’m still not about to run off the edge of a perfectly good building, but I definitely appreciate the fun side of it now. Remember, don’t try this at home kids!

We’re in the final countdown to Christmas, my fellow geeks! My gifts are wrapped, my decorations are up, and (most of) the messy aftermath of wrapping and decorating has been stowed away. I know everyone is super busy this time of year, but I’m sure you can spare a few minutes to make these two adorable papercraft Krampuses! (Kramps? Krampi?) If you haven’t yet been introduced to Krampus, the Christmas Devil, boy oh boy, are you missing out.
This lil’ green guy was created by Christopher Bonnette. I made him a couple years ago when I first found out about the Krampus. He even comes with an accessory: a terrified child for his basket! The other, much hairier, Krampus was created by Uncle Ghastly. I just made him a couple nights ago! So far both Krampuses are getting along famously! And I’m making sure to be on my best behaviour, of course. I don’t want to end up in their baskets!
Zombie snowflakes! (Zomflakes? Znowflakes?) Perfect for that touch of the macabre in your Christmas decor. The pattern is by Buz Carter and was discovered over on Zombie Christmas.
Dare I say it? I’m beginning to get into a Christmassy mood. I’ve been thinking of gifties and peppermint mochas and decorations for the past week or so. I’ve been holding off on doing any actual decorating though. It is still November after all. Christmas crafting on the other hand…methinks I need to get started on that! These Star Trek snowflakes featured on Tried and True (pattern created by Tanner from Buzzfeed) seem like a good way to ease into the holiday season.
Do you see it? It’s the Enterprise! No doubt blasting off on their five year mission; to find new life and new civilizations. Boldly meddling where no one has meddled before!
Since tomorrow is Halloween, it’s the perfect time to feature Jasmin’s amazing cross stitch of everyone’s favourite serial killer, Michael Myers. (From the movie Halloween of course!)
Wow. Just…wow. This embroidered tribute to Ray Harryhausen (who passed away earlier this year at the age of 92) was posted to our Geek Crafts Flickr Pool awhile ago, and it blew me away! It was stitched completely in redwork by the awesome Ellen Schinderman. Ray Harryhausen was a special effects artist specializing in stop motion animation and movie monsters. If you’re into horror or sci-fi movies at all, there’s a good chance that you’ve seen at least one of the movies he worked on, like Clash of the Titans (1981) or Jason and the Argonauts (1963). One of my favourites was The Valley of Gwangi (1969) because (of course) it was about a dinosaur!
