A Monster of a Star Wars Cake

“Buttery caramel flavored moist bundt cake drizzled with homemade salted caramel sauce and dusted with Biscoff Cookie Crumbles.”

So begins Kathleen’s post on how she made her Star Wars Sarlacc bundt cake. A pretty tasty beginning, I’d say!

She recreated the omnivorous creature from “Return of the Jedi” in cake form, complete with little almond sliver spikes inside the center and cookie batter tentacles. I think the teeth she added are the icing on the cake (ahem – they’re made from frosting, after all…).

A Droid in a Droid

This paper mache BB-8 was actually made to function as an almost life size gift box, by karmaforme, who recently posted it to Imgur, to showcase the wrapping job he did for his brother-in-law. He took a regular square U-Haul box, added side pieces to make it round, filled in the spaces with wadded up newspaper and tape, and covered it in paper mache. BB8’s head was a separate piece, complete with chop stick antennae. He left the bottom of the box with its original flat side, so his friend could access the gift inside: a smaller BB-8.

His brother-in-law teaches robotics, so his students will no doubt enjoy this as a decoration in his classroom.

Finding Star Trek Crafts in the Weirdest Places

Full disclosure this weekend: somehow, I’ve ended up sick again, so I’ve been binge watching Star Trek fan films on You Tube. There’s a lot of interesting ones, and a few not so good ones, out there. And because I was in a Star Trek frame of mind for my entertainment, it carried over into my entry for today.

First up, a “Live Long and Prosper” clock from…Wal-Mart!

Made from red oak, this clock stands 8.75″ tall and 6.75″ wide. It’s available for $46.89. Now, if that’s your mantra in life but you don’t have almost $50 available but you still need something for your home, the phrase, “Live long and prosper” is fairly dominant over in the home and living section of Etsy.

Next up is your very own Galileo from the USS Enterprise, in necklace form.

Given that you’re celebrating you anniversary with your girlfriend or just that you finish modifying your retro class F shuttle-craft, and you need to treat yourself on this occasion or to accessorize your uniform. Whether you’re off duty or on, this Pennsylvania designer, “Paul Michael Design” beautifully crafted this shuttlecraft. It comes either in gold or silver, with a customizing of what type of gem stones to be “seated” inside the shuttle when it’s open up to see the interior.

The length of the pendant is least 22mm, and is available for $395. Paul Mitchell Design is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Target Star Wars Keychains – $1 each

While browsing the $1-$3 section at my local Target (I love that section), I saw these awesome Star Wars keychains for a mere $1 each (they also had Vader and a stormtrooper). They are made of silicone, I think. I had just recently bought a vew small backpack (a sling bag) to take to work and needed some geeky accents on it and I thought these would be perfect (and CHEAP). R2 ended being too big so he now dangles from my rear view mirror in my car and the Star Wars logo is attached to my backback. I didn’t like the fact that the backs are just plain (no design) so I ended up going back and buying two more and supergluing them back to back so no matter which side they flip to, you can see what it is. I removed the chain on the Star Wars one for my backpack and left it on R2 so he can dangle.

Looks pretty good for only $2! The Space Invader is made of Perler beads my daughter made for me and the stormtrooper key chain I got at Amazon for $4 before I found the Target ones.

Optimus Prime + The TARDIS = Awesome.

I love Transformers. I love Doctor Who. So, what’s not to love about a 3-D printed, actual working/transforming Tardimus Prime??!! Seriously. What’s not to love? Inspired by Jason Casteel’s TARDIS Prime artwork, user Ellindsey designed and created this 3-D printed realization, and it actually transforms. What’s even cooler is you can find Ellindsey’s CAD files and instructions for building your own. Oh, for a 3-D printer. Even you don’t have one, you should definitely check out the link for the additional pictures. Transform and roll out!
