Attractive Scientists

When I came across these pictures, I was instantly in love. This is a collection of portraits of famous scientists by artist Simon Bent. I imagine making a quilt out of one of these. How great would it be if your baby’s blankets was a big picture of Isaac Newton.

Futurama Decor

I’m a HUGE Futurama fan, and everytime I see the episode “I, Roomate” I see this cross stich and think, I HAVE TO MAKE THAT!

I haven’t made it yet, but I am one step closer. I fired up KXStitch, which is an awesome Linux program where you can create your own cross stitch patterns.  I made this pattern, and thought I’d share it with you, my fellow geek crafters.  Hope you like it.

Anybody know any other pop culture cross stitch waiting to be done?

Library Book Bag.

My little Kindergartner was super excited to get her library card the other day.

She was concerned she would loose her new library card, and she wanted to make sure she had somewhere safe to keep her borrowed books. (A real concern with 3 little siblings, and a house full of books)  So I made her a special library book bag.

I made it out of a pair of old jeans. Actually 3/4 of a pair of old jeans, I used 1/2 of a leg for a different project. It’s a simple messenger bag with a few special touches.  The front has a great decoration I embroidered on to a piece of felt, using a pattern from Urban Threads. I just zigzagged around the edge to keep it in place.

On the inside, there is a pocket for the library card. I cut a pocket off of the butt of the pants, and sewed it into place. We were nervouse the card might fall out and get lost, so we put as little hole punch in the card, and tied it on with a ribbon.

It has lots of room for all her special library books, and she loves it very much. She has already taken it to school for show and tell.

Make your own robot. (or as least decorate your own)

Who doesn’t want their own personal robot? Well check out this cute little guy, Wendell.

I love that he comes as a blank slate, so you can decorate him any way you want. He’s also open source, so you can program him to do your bidding.

And check him out dressed as Michael Jackson doing the thriller dance.

Geek Love

I celebrated my 8 year wedding anniversary yesterday. Bronze is the traditional 8 year anniversary gift, which made me think about Steam Punk weddings, chemistry themed weddings, robot weddings, etc.  I still am hooked on looking at wedding ideas, and here are a few I think I would use if I were to get married again, (to the same guy, of course.)

For the robot love, check out this amazing robot cake topper, from Etsy shop buildersstudio . We have one on our mantel, and I love seeing it everyday.

Who needs a rose, when you could adorn your lapel with a Lego man. Check out these cool Lego boutineers from off beat bride.

Check out these awesome robot wedding shoes also from Off Beat Bride.

And if you’re more into games than robots or Legos, check out this board game wedding cake. (that I made for my friends Deb and Brad.)

Robotic Christmas Tree

What say “Christmas” better than robots? Nothing, That’s what.

Check out  fjordcarver’s awesome Instructable, and learn how to make your own robotic talking Christmas tree.

I love his little eyes. He looks like Cookie Monster… if Cookie Monster was a Christmas Tree.
