Yeesh…cheesy title for the post this week, right? Sorry about that. I’ve had a looong weekend at the Small Press Expo in suburban Washington DC. But on the other end of that cheesy title folks is a double whammy: a chess set (gasp!) with a Doctor Who theme (wheee!) I found this via the deviantart page of Eladin Skywalker, a sculptor who made all 32 pieces from scratch out of polymer clay. The piece breakdown is as follows:

Guys, can we talk about what Ashley Mertz is doing over at Go Chase Rabbits? Because, it’s like…whoa. Whoa, slow down Ashley because I can’t even keep up with all these cute skirts and I have so many questions: Where is the fabric coming from? How do you have the time to make all these? What shoes would I wear with the Yoshi skirt?
If Yoshi isn’t your speed, 1) What is the matter with you and 2) Ms. Mertz likely has your geek beat covered from Tardis skirts, Pokemon pettis, Star Wars, LoTR…even a periodic table mini-skirt. It’s all there, it’s all cute.
Gaming is not part of my geekness — well, except for Angry Birds. But I do have friends who are quite proficient in various video games and so have heard the term Metroid bandied about amongst them occasionally. However, I did not realize just how cute they could be until I spotted Ellen Kramer‘s series of plush keychains of various characters from video games. For sale in her shop on Etsy called Smellestine, the key chains include Pokeman, Mario Star and Metroid.
Handmade piranha plants? Stompable balloon Goombas? A DIY chain chomp piñata? Homemade mushroom cupcakes? This has got to be the best Super Mario-themed birthday party ever! I hope this kid appreciated it—it was only his fourth birthday. I’d be pretty psyched if someone threw me a party that awesome now, and I’m 31.
