Captain America Clothing Crafts

Even though Captain America 3 isn’t scheduled to come out until 2016, and Avengers: Age of Ultron is coming out in May, Steve Rogers would say that every day is a good day for Truth, Honor, and Patriotism!

If you’d like to display your love for Captain America, there are several fashionable DIYs for you to do so!

First, Comm Couture created a freedom trifecta of Cap Pacs for herself and her two sons, in less than one day! She used some different colored felt , some straps, and voila!

Deviantart user AcidDaisy took the stars and stripes to a whole new level with her fashionable Captain America Dress. She also created an incredibly helpful tutorial on how to make your own as well!

Lastly, if you’re looking for a more subtle homage, Tumblr user Tehnakki came up with a beautiful floral emblem of Cap’s Shield to decorate her sweatshirt with, making it a wonderful example of geek chic. She’s posted the pattern shapes she used, as well as a pdf with detailed instructions for everyone who’d like to try it themselves.

Have a Merry Geeky Christmas

Well, I can hardly believe it’s December already (so many presents to finish!), but ’tis the season for Christmas trees and ornaments. Luckily for you all, I have found the perfect way to geek up your home for the holidays! These would make great gifts for fellow nerds, or keep them for yourself!

First up, for all of the Captain America fans, make sure your tree is appropriately patriotic with this lovely felt tree skirt! Crafted by the great folks over at With Our Powers Combined, they took a Dollar Store tree skirt and turned it into the Captain America shield. It’s amazing what you can do with creativity and a few yards of felt.

Next, for all you Potterheads out there, adorn your tree with the Golden Snitch! Made by Gabrielle from Tiny Apartment Crafts, this Snitch is made from a gold ornament, some acrylic paint, and some glittery wings crafted from wire and tissue paper. Beautiful and shiny, it’s a perfect addition to any tree!

DIY Halloween Costume: Captain America

So how is your Halloween costume coming along? I actually have a Halloween costume party to go to this year, and think I may just go easy on myself with a premade Star Trek uniform that I already have, unless I’m inspired by something else I happen along. In case you’re still looking for inspiration, perhaps this Captain America costume is just the thing?

Michele of The Scrap Shoppe provides easy step-by-step instructions for converting a simple children’s sweat set into heroic form, and I would think it would be just as easy to apply to adult-size sweats. I love her idea of masking off the star shape for painting, though it might look neat with a white felt star hand-stitched on, too.

Tis The Season…to Carve a Pumpkin

We are fast approaching the most wonderful time of the year….Halloween. Was there another time you were thinking of? I’m elbows deep in Styrofoam, hair, and glue trying to put the last bits of my costume together. And its almost time to bring out the box of Halloween decorations and start getting wild. This also means Pumpkin carving.

Over at Pink Raygun they have pumpkin carving templates for the nerd inside of us all and have already gotten started with a S.H.I.E.L.D. template.

Now who wouldn’t want that at your front door? There are sure to be plenty of Avengers coming for a visit. Possibly a few agents who think Tahiti is “a magical place”. You know the important things.

DIY High-Voltage Thor’s Hammer – 80,000 Volt Mjölnir!

Caleb from Hackaday wanted to make his own Thor’s Hammer. But not just any Thor’s Hammer, oh no, Caleb’s version of Mjölnir contains a mini Tesla Coil that packs an 80,000 volt, lightning strike punch.

Click the image above to see Caleb’s video that demonstrates what I’m talking about. The hammer is pretty big, but in a cool, over-sized kind of a way, and would make a great talking point at any convention. There’s also a good video where Caleb shows how he made both the hammer itself and his pretty effective version of Thor’s armour, which appears to have only taken a few hours. Avengers Cocktails

Ok, so these recipes may seem only one shot of Sambuca short of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, likely to have you unconscious and shaking in a corner before you’ve even got to the God of Mischief, but how cool is the idea of Avengers-themed cocktails?!

Consume sensibly. You might have to save the world later, and you don’t want to be too mashed to get your suit on.
