It’s not too early for Halloween Costume Ideas!

Minion-costumes-collage

I just got to see the Minion movie this weekend (laugh-out-loud-adorable, by the way) and thought I’d share this epic Minion Halloween Costume tutorial with you all.  Linda from Craftaholics Anonymous posted this one a couple of years ago, but given the recent movie, I imagine Minions will be super popular this year.  Plus, I think it’d be pretty easy to adapt these patterns to adult sizes, if you’re of the adventurous type.

For Captain Picard Day, a Star Trek mug cozy. Hot.

Star Trek mug cozy by Katie Smith

Did you know that June 16th is recognized by Star Trek fans as Captain Picard Day? According to Memory Alpha:

Captain Picard Day was an annual event held aboard the USS Enterprise-D for the ship’s schoolchildren. Activities included a contest, judged by Captain Jean-Luc Picard himself, in which the children created paintings and models of the captain. Picard was himself not very fond of the event, as he generally did not respond well to children.

To honor Captain Picard’s favorite beverage, here is an easy mug cozy for you to whip together to enjoy a cup of tea. Earl Grey. Hot. Katie over at Punk Projects has all the how-to details waiting for you in the Ready Room. You still have time to make one before Tuesday.

How do you plan to celebrate Captain Picard Day?

Add Geek Flair to Your Shorts

Geek panel jean shorts by Sasha Rumage

With all the fantastic geek fabric hitting the stores and interwebs these days, you may be wondering what to make with it.  Here’s an idea from Sasha of Tattooed Martha – add some flair to your favorite pair of shorts.

Her tutorial walks you through creating a custom panel for shorts you already love, with the bonus of Velcro tabs so you can switch the panels out! Genius! And extra bonus? It’s all NO SEW!

I would think this might also work to create interchangeable geek fabric pockets to attach to the front or side of skirts.

What geek fabric would you like to use to spice up your wardrobe?
