Cthulhu Tea Cozy

Crafty Butterfly made this cute horrifying Cthulhu teapot cozy for her husband. He has a teapot at work, where he does “Geeky Stuff…should be a big hit and earn him some more geek cred”. Looks perfect to me! She combined two patterns to make it (which are here and here), making a few alterations herself.

Reader Submission! Wookie Wear – Chewbacca baby Mitts and Booties!

SO, last week we had international Star Wars Day, which was celebrated on a host of different blogs across the galaxy.

Cheryl from Sew Can Do got in on the action too and brought her geek-crafting skills to the party. Check out these ADORABLE Chewbacca baby Mitts and Booties!! She knew that we’d be interested in seeing her work, so she hit us up on our Submit a Geek Craft page.

On another note: Small world, a friend of mine bought me a baby Yoda Hat from Cheryl’s Etsy Shop, The Green Hedgehog, in preparation for my growing tummy monster. I’m also really lucky to have recently received an awesome amigurumi Wampa from Craftster user SilentBlair in the “One Tiny Thing, Star Wars Swap”. Star Wars Babies FTW!!

DIY Angry Birds magnet game

Because it is the #1 paid app in both the U.S. and the U.K., perhaps I should feel some geek-shame in admitting that I’ve never played Angry Birds, and in fact don’t even have it installed on my iPhone. I have only a few computer game addictions (my family calls me the Great White Chuzzle Hunter), and Angry Birds hasn’t made the list — yet.

But I know both my son and husband really love it, along with scores of others, including Punk Projects blogger Katie. She created a set of Angry Birds magnets, and kindly put together a super easy tutorial so you too can have your own set.

You could of course adapt this idea to pretty much any platform game, such as Mario Brothers or Donkey Kong.

Phantom of the Opera Plushie

Phantom of the Opera plushie

As soon as I saw this Phantom of the Opera plushie, I fell in love. Created my Lita Mitchell of Custom UFO Catchers, this plushie even has a removable mask.  Mitchell’s site has dozens upon dozens of custom dolls from every fandom one can imagine; she also accepts custom commission.

I dream of the day I have the spare money to buy one of my very own.  Yes, I’m 23 years old and my fondest wish is to cuddle with this little plushie Phantom.

Tolkien’s Words

Not all who wander are lost

This delightful embroidery was created by Aerynkellye, who runs the shop Sweet E’s on Etsy.  Her shop has many delightful embroidered wall hangings, including a zombie pin-up girl.  This one was my particular favorite.  “Not all who wander are lost,” has been one of my favorite Tolkien quotes since I first read the Lord of the Rings back in 2001.  What I love about this embroidery piece is how the letters are reminiscent of the forest, they go from jagged to flowing lines almost like the branches and leaves of a tree.

“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.  From ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”  – J.R.R.
