TARDIS Sprinkles review and Geeky Hostess Giveaway

**Edit: Thanks to the random number generator, commenter number 4, Anna, has won! We’ll be in touch by e-mail! Thanks so much everyone and a super thank you to Tara of the Geeky Hostess!**

For years cupcakes have been a huge trend. Unfortunately, traditional cupcakes are pretty lacking in the geeky department. Thankfully creator of GeekyHostess.com, Tara, has changed all that with her array of geeky sprinkles. Now you can combine the cuteness of cupcakes with a fandom sprinkling of your choice. She offers four varieties to choose from: police box, gears, lightning bolts, and meeple. I was offered my choice of shape, so naturally I went with police box.

yes, I even found bow-tie wrappers!

Yesterday my business, Nerds & Needles, was at Toronto Fan Days and I brought in these for treats to hand out to my neighbours and friends. They were a huge hit, everyone thought they were super clever, and I didn’t have to slave over them to make them awesome.

Perfect Cupcakes for Halloween

cupcakes

Usiris23 posted a tutorial (and the cupcakes were made by Instructables user SemadarG ) over on Imgur on how to make these scrumptious zombie teeth cupcakes for Halloween. Believe it or not, everything on top of the cupcake is actually just fondant and food coloring.

The fresh blood finish is made by mixing red coloring gel with drops of vodka of lemon extract. The dried blood is a mix red with a drop of royal blue and drops of vodka/lemon extract. Using a brush, apply the “fresh blood” color mix around the torn skin tissue, and apply the “dried blood” color mix around the gums, especially where the gums meet the skin tissue.

Can you imagine biting into one of these, if it were a red velvet cupcake?

Nom nom – International Pi Day!

Nom nom - International Pi Day

Today is the 14th of March and that can only mean one thing. No, I don’t mean the birthday of Albert Einstein and Johann Strauss, I mean International Pi day! According to the Pi Day website:

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (a Greek letter) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.

GeekCraft roundup: GIR!

My daughter is very into “Gir” these days – the sidekick from the Invader Zim cartoon. She’s hoping to pull together a Gir costume for Halloween. So in researching various DIY options, I pulled together this roundup of Gir crafts.

BehindtheSofa created her own Gir cross-stitch pattern, and stitched it onto a black hoodie.

When I was a kid, I used to love Shrinky Dinks, so these Dog Gir/Robot Gir earrings by Lynn Aquaheart caught my eye.

Physics Cupcakes

Physics CupcakesAccording to popular theories held by physics professors the world over, cupcakes are delicious.  That’s why I absolutely adore these cupcakes made by quaint_idea for her last ever high school physics class.  I’m pretty sure I skipped my last ever high school physics class to pump iron or something equally manly, but I am glad to see that some people have more class than that.

Take a closer look at the cupcakes here, they were posted on a livejournal group called geekcrafts because great minds think alike and all that.

You can also visit quaint_idea at her LJ page here.

Geeky cupcakes are nothing new to Geekcrafts, check out these Doctor Who Cupcakes or these iPhone Cupcakes or even these Pac-Man cupcakes.  Is anyone else getting hungry?
